As we approach the 2007-2008 school year (it'll be here before we all know), I just wanted to mention a few important details regarding the soccer team and the soccer class at Taft HS.
School starts August 27; we plan to be on the soccer field and beginning the tryout phase of our season on August 28, so it is very important that all student athletes have their Physical Packet completed and turned in to the trainers by August 27. Student athletes will not be able to participate on the field in any way until this has been successfully turned in.If you do not have a Physical Packet, please see the trainers at Taft or contact Coach Davis to obtain one.
Due to the rapid population growth in the Taft area, our membership in the soccer class is at an all time high. Coach Wunderli and I sincerely wish that we could keep every single athlete that comes out for the team, but we only have so many spots on the Varsity and JV teams, so it is going to be necessary to trim down our class size in the first couple of weeks of school. We call this our tryout phase.
We will also be having an open tryout on November 26th and 27th for anyone who is not in the soccer class but wishes to tryout for one of our teams. Our final rosters are not set until after the open tryout in November, so everyone needs to realize that making the team is an ongoing process and won't be finalized right away.
Please also note that the Varsity team practices and has scrimmages over Christmas Break, and both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams have games and practices over Spring Break. We realize it is a big commitment, but we require that any players that come out for our program plan to be in attendance during those times.
